Review: Asus Eee Pc 1215N Netbook
Oh baby. You want power? You want performance? You want a Netbook that can stream two full-length movies through its Netbook Hdmi port and have power extra? You have found the right Netbook.
Much of the rest of the capability suffers a touch, sadly. The screen isn’t the greatest, the keyboard isn’t ideal, and the 1215N is a slight greater than other Netbooks. Regardless, it’s unlikely that any of these faults are significant, and if you’re finding for a lot of operation in a tiny bundle, they can very surely be ignored.
Hardware Details
Intel Atom Dual-Core E-350 1.8 Ghz processor
2Gb Ddr3 Sdram
250 Gb 7200Rpm hard drive
Nvidia GeForce G210 Ion2 graphics card
7.99″ x 11.65″ x 1.46″
3.21 pounds
Screen and Graphics
The resolution is good – that isn’t the issue. It’s a full 1366×728 that you’d expect on a Netbook of these dimensions. Colour range and saturation is just excellent too. The display surely isn’t awful. It’s not just excellent, either.
You may need to muck around with the lid a touch to get the screen to a good angle for watching videos, although browsing the internet is going to be more forgiving. The horizontal watching angle is much less forgiving, however. If you’re trying to view a video with you and your two best buddies, your buddies are likely to be watching a much dissimilar – and distorted – movie than you.
Mind you, if you’re viewing a video with more than one person, chances are good you’ll be piping that movie out through the Netbook Hdmi port on the side, and the screen will cease to be a big issue for you.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Just like numerous Netbook manufacturers, Asus only gets one of two input devices correct. In this situation, you will get a great touchpad and a so-so keyboard.
The touchpad is soft, sleek, classy plastic that feels great to work with, and is literal, as anything. The mouse button bar is adequately clicky, too. It’s just a surely great trackpad to use.
The keyboard however is best referred to as “tolerable”. It’s not bad sufficient to surely get in the way, but it has some bend to it and the keys aren’t satisfyingly clicky – sometimes you plainly don’t have that tactile response you desire and need when keying in surely quickly. It’s not poor sufficient to surely get in the way, however it is definitely unlike the delight of typing on a mechanical keyboard.
Processor and Memory
Asus provides a extraordinary cpu with this laptop – the Dual Core Intel Atom D525, running at 1.8Ghz. This is far more than sufficient operation to display high-definition movies through your Netbook Hdmi port, or play games, or power through oppressive Excel spreadsheets. Having said that, the memory included could be something of a challenge.
The motor I was able to work with came with 2Gb, which is sufficient for the vast majority of tasks you’ll want to do. On the other hand, the Asus website specifies the 1215N comes with 1Gb which is surely a slight insufficient, so be confident of your technical specs before you buy.
Storage
Storage may be a excellent concern if you would like to stream Hd movies, because you need to put them someplace. Fortunately, the 1215N is sold with either a 250Gb or 320Gb disk drive, which can be abundance of room. And in the event that’s too little, Asus features a one-year trial of their Asus WebStorage, supplying you with 500Gb of storehouse with it.
Ports and Connectors
Clearly, you will have a Netbook Hdmi connector, but you’ll also get a old-style Vga port, if you have to hook up to an older monitor, which is nice. Also included are as many as 3 Usb ports (only on a few versions, up to two of which can be Usb 3.0), a high-speed Ethernet port, a headphone connector, a microphone jack, and a card reader (Sd, Sdhc, Sdxc, Mmc).
Os and Software
Once again, the Os is something that may vary on a model-by-model basis. Nearly all seem to have Windows 7 Home premium 32-bit, however quite a few do seem to have 64-bit. The 32-bit model won’t keep you back Too much, since the most memory you’ll get on it by default is 2 Gb, however if you select to upgrade to 4 Gb, ensure you go for a copy of Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit to take advantage of it.
